Science Department

This year the science department is focusing on teaching the Next Generation Science Standards integrated disciplinary core ideas through the use of science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts. This means that students at every grade level will be exposed to Biological, Earth, and Physical science. Citizens in today's world will be called upon to make informed decisions on personal and societal issues such as health care and environmental stewardship. In order to make these decisions, they must have a firm understanding of science and technology. In addition, job opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are growing. Six grade is integrating art into their curriculum through the Coalition of Teachers and Artists program to create a STEAM based curriculum. 7th grade students are learning how natural processes and human activity shape earth's biodiversity. Students in 8th grade are being taught the California Content Standards for 8th grade as they will be take the California Standards Test for 8th grade science in the spring. They will be learning physics, chemistry, and astronomy through some NGSS practices.
