Knox Middle School
March 2021
Welcome To March!
Hello Knox Families!
This year is quickly passing us by, and we have almost reached the one year mark since we left campus due to the pandemic. I want to take some time to reflect on how far we have come in a year. Our students, staff and families have worked together with tremendous partnership to build an online learning program, that not only focuses on academic success, but embeds Social Emotional Learning, positive student motivation, celebration of student and staff success, and fun! Ms Hueso and I are both thrilled to have had the opportunity to teach a morning Advisory class with our Knox students. It has been about 13 years since I have had a middle school science class of my own, and I have really cherished this time having an Advisory class online.
This month, we continue to expand out our onsite Appointment-based learning model for tutoring as well as our Learning Lab model of on site instruction. It has been wonderful to see some of our students back on campus. Currently, many our staff members are getting vaccinated and we have our fingers crossed for a larger expansion in on site learning before the end of the school year. We are all in this together, so please wear your mask, and practice social distancing.
While in online learning, our teaching and paraprofessional staff have been working closely in collaboration to continue to build on their learning in the pursuit of our Marzano Level Two Certification. Knox is one of two district schools that has been Marzano Level One certified. At the end of March, we will be pursuing our level two certification. https://www.marzanoresources.com/hrs/high-reliability-schools.
As part of this certification, our teachers have been participating in Action Research all year. In the process of Action Research, our teachers identify a question they wish to learn more about in relation to teaching, learning and building a safe an equitable class environment. Teachers then work as team to try on new strategies in their teaching and measure the impact on student learning through data analysis. Teachers also conduct research on best practices to support their lesson development. This process has been an incredible way to teachers to learn and support each other in their professional development. Our Knox staff is incredible!!
During my 6 years serving as Principal of Knox and my 10 years as an Administrator in the Lincoln Cluster, I could not be more honored and proud of the work we have done to build incredible opportunities for our students. Through countless grants totaling over $250,000 for our schools, to provide instructional and facility improvements, I will continue to seek to bring the best to Knox and our district. I am proud of our Knox students and our staff for inspiring me to continue in our relentless pursuit of excellence in all aspects. Your students are incredible and the support you give at home is phenomenal.
I am honored to have been selected as the ACSA Region 18 Principal of the Year for San Diego and Imperial counties. It is with our Bulldog Family and your awesome children at the forefront of our vision, that all things are possible. In the continued pursuit of excellence on all levels, I am honored to serve as your Knox Principal.

Knox Primetime Update
Hello Knox Students & Families!
We had a very successful “Movie Night” this past February where we watched the Pixar film Toy Story 4. The film was watched online and we were also able to distribute school supplies and goodies to those who were able to partake in our event! In order to be considered for events such as these moving forward, keep a look out for our monthly newsletters as well joining us on our zoom calls Monday-Thursday 3p-6p.
Thank you all for your continued support in getting your kids involved with PrimeTime! We have had an awesome amount of participation but are always looking to add more of your students to the mix! We are continuouslyenrolling throughout the school year to give your children the best opportunity to participate in sports, arts and other fun activities.
In the coming months, we will continue to explore and implement new activities to our daily schedule that reflect the needs and interests of ourstudents! Regular weekly activities will include sport’s day, artistic expression, workout day, and college/career readiness day! In addition, we will continue to regularly host events such as movie nights, game days, trivia nights, and open houses. In some of these events, students can receive goodies and prizes!
We look forward to having you and your kids become a part of our Knox PrimeTime family!
